AIDS in Africa Trends in 2006

In 2005 we heard earnest commitments from many nations and wealthy philanthropic businessmen that they would work to solve the AIDS problems in Africa. As a matter of fact at Davos in 2005 we listened to the discussion of the plight in Africa and it was not only the AIDS issue, although that was one of the main points of contention and indeed one of the biggest hurdles and challenges. Yet there are huge issues with fresh water supplies, farming, and sewage treatment, melting of the glaciers, malaria, dysentery, civil unrest, violence and wars. And the economic issues are serious as well with most of the nation earning less than one dollar per day.

Some of those reviewing the situation say that AIDS is the least of their problems, yes it kills people but many of these people have less than 7-years to live anyway due to highly polluted water supply. The indiscriminant sex and lack of condom use is also a huge issue. Others are looking ahead and seeing how the animals live with the humans and believing Bird Flu may mutate their and run thru the population like the Bubonic Plague and these folks are saying that perhaps we ought to quarantine the entire country.

As far as AIDS goes it is indeed completely out of control and highly serious, but they also see a need to simultaneously take care of the other issues first and foremost. Think on this in 2006.
